Faith in Place
Water Preservationist - Outreach Coordinator
Greater Chicago Area
Ramont Bell, of Faith in Place, will share how through their collaboration with the Chicago Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation his organization distributed over Five hundred (500) rain barrels and designed/installed 5 Rain Gardens, along with education programming. The Rain Barrel and Rain Gardens promotes a 1 -2 punch in dealing with storm water management in the Chicago communities that are dealing with flooding problems. The 500 rain barrels will redirect 1.6M gallons of storm water annually from the combined storm water and sewer systems in the communities where the rain barrels are installed. The 5 Rain Gardens will redirect 173,000 gallons of storm water runoff annually from the combined storm water and sewer systems in the communities where the rain gardens are installed. The Rain Gardens and Rain Barrels supports a social movement toward water preservation and storm water management education along with reducing storm water runoff pollution and the beginning of green infrastructure awareness for flood reduction. Promoting Good People to be Good Stewards of the Land.

Following, the facilitator will lead an interactive discussion about hurdles and barriers to community level projects, how to involve municipalities and other partners, and what is needed to encourage more of these initiatives.
